Obstructive sleep apnea and thyroid cáncer: an association to consider
##plugins.themes.bootstrap3.article.main##
Abstract
Sleep-disordered breathing is a common pathology in children, the incidence of which can increase dramatically in the presence of various risk conditions, including pediatric cancer. Its multifactorial origin is determined by the presence of factors directly and indirectly related to the presence of neo- plasia. An interrelation between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the development of cancer has recently been described. The study and management should be focused on a complete anamnesis and physical examination, objective studies and subjective tools, such as sleep questionnaires. Weight loss and non- invasive positive pressure therapy are key strategies in coping with patients with OSA. In this article we present the case of an adolescent with medullary thyroid cancer and the presence of severe OSA and hypoventilation.
